Prof. Mona Nasser is a clinical epidemiologist, interdisciplinary methodologist, futurist and a visual artist. She is currently a Professor of Clinical Epidemiology and Oral Health research at the University of Plymouth and the Director of Plymouth Institute of Health and Care Research. She is a methodologist focusing on challenges of using systematic reviews with topics that use diverse study design (clinical, animal and in-vitro) or focus on interdisciplinary topics especially how it can apply to space medicine. She has developed frameworks around developing and evaluating research priority setting exercises. She facilitates collaboration with robotics engineer and cybersecurity experts to find new technological solutions to make the dental practice more welcoming for individuals with different level of intellectual or physical abilities.
She is the go-to champion for futurism community-driven solutions building. She founded and led the futurism collaboration – meta-futurism (www.metafuturism.net). She designs, facilitates, and supports virtual space exploration simulation mission studies and international workshops. Her focus is on unlocking collective intelligence to generating more diversified and inclusive futures- re-thinking and re-defining how life on other planets works and people's engagement with climate and environment can be re-defined.
She has > 100 peer-reviewed publications, mostly research articles in journals including well-known journals like Lancet and BMJ and contributed to research grants over £3 million. She is currently a visiting fellow for BIH/QUEST centre fellow and NIHR Oral and Dental Specialty Lead South West Peninsula Clinical Research Network. She is the lead and contact person for the dental academic clinical fellows at university of Plymouth. She co-founded and lead the Cochrane Priority Setting Methods group and is also on the founding steering group of the Evidence based Research Network. She was a fellow at the health modelling programme of PenCHORD.
As a visual artist, her work focuses on enquiries around line, drawing practices, calligraphy, languages and thought experiments to explore concepts in physics, astrophysics using sci-fi narratives, sculpture, and drawings.
She has a private pilot license (200 hours flying including taildragger endorsement and some aerobatic hours), skydiving license (>330 jumps, C license), paragliding (elementary pilot), open water PADI. She also studies astrophysics.

What i can do
My research employs an interdisciplinary approach to investigate complex challenges in dental care and similar environments. I focus on designing, piloting, implementing, and evaluating interventions to address these challenges, particularly those that necessitate an interdisciplinary perspective for both understanding and resolution. In my role as a methodologist and consultant, I have gained experience in a variety of quantitative and qualitative methodologies, including:
